Exploration
Cabot married and had 3 sons when Christopher Columbus unknowingly explored the New World. Cabot asked King John II and King Ferdinand to explore, but was denied. Fortunately, King Henry VII agreed to Cabot for ⅕ of the profit made during the journey. John sailed on the ship “Matthew” with his son Sebastian Cabot on May 2, 1497. He landed near Newfoundland on June 24 and became the first European to discover mainland. He returned to England on August 1497 and was considered a hero for supposedly finding Asia. He was sent on another voyage with five ships. However, one was disabled by storms and the results to the trip are unknown. It is theorized that John died in 1499 in England.
